Petunia Mix - Flowering Plants

Known for their prolific blooming throughout the spring, summer, and fall, these flowers provide continuous color to the garden. Typically annuals, petunias complete their life cycle in one growing season. The Petunia mix can be planted in various settings, including garden beds, containers, hanging baskets, and window boxes, adding beauty to their surroundings.

Attractive to pollinators like bees and butterflies, petunias are relatively easy to grow and care for, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced gardeners. Proper sunlight, well-draining soil, and regular watering are essential for their healthy growth and flowering. Removing spent flowers encourages more blooms and helps maintain a tidy appearance, while caution must be taken not to overwater, as petunias dislike soggy soil.

Petunias are also popular choices for edging, borders, and mass plantings due to their prolific nature, with a range of colors available, including pink, purple, yellow, red, orange, green, and white.

About Our Seeds

Our seeds are packed in tear and moisture-resistant packaging, stored in a controlled, dry facility, and always packed for the current and upcoming seasons. Non-GMO and untreated, they are true to the variety advertised.

Growing Instructions

To start your petunia seeds, begin at least 10 to 12 weeks before your zone's projected last frost date. Spread the tiny seeds on top of a moist seed-starting mix, gently pressing them down without burying them, as they need light to germinate. Cover the container with clear plastic and place it in a warm spot, out of direct sunlight. Seedlings should emerge within seven to 10 days, at which point, the plastic can be removed.

When the seedlings have three true leaves, they can be transplanted into their own pots until they are ready to be transplanted outdoors, after the threat of frost has passed and the soil is warm and workable.

Most petunia varieties prefer full sun, meaning at least six hours of direct sunlight on most days, but partial shade during the heat of summer can help keep them refreshed and blooming better. Petunias thrive in a light, fertile, well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH, and should be planted roughly a foot apart.

Frequent, deep watering is essential, as petunias don't like to be dry for long periods, but they also don't tolerate soggy soil, which can rot their roots. The ideal temperatures for petunias range from 60°F to 75°F during the day and 55°F to 65°F at night, and they can tolerate temperatures down to around 40°F, but not frost or freezing.

Fertilizing petunias at the time of planting with a balanced fertilizer, followed by a liquid fertilizer made for flowering plants every two to three weeks starting in July, will help ensure their continued growth and blooming. Pinching back the stems when planting young petunias can encourage more branching and a fuller plant.
